Cars in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were alerted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.

A high-ranking political figure commented the incident left him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
