Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Secures First Championship in Nearly 30 Months

19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
